We Are Malaysian

Quality Education

Our project – WE ARE MALAYSIAN is a supportive project where we desire to support non-Malay students (Chinese and, Indians) and others who studies in both selected schools which are SMK Simpang Renggam and SMK Dato’ Abdul Rahman Andak. This project is to help students to cooperate with each other even they are in different races. The students should challenge themselves to cooperate create harmony with each other in doing activities. Through this project, we attempt to help them by providing the education level on using technology of our country’s future generation. These students will be guided on one of the benefits of technology which is in designing posters and publishing video. Through this, these students could have a platform to shine themselves and build interest in appreciating technologies. It also will give students opportunities to collaborate with their peers resulting in learning from each other in which it will definitely benefit them in future. These factors combined can lead to a positive impact on student learning and motivation.SMK Dato’ Abdul Rahman Andak has over approximately 1380 students and SMK Simpang Renggam has over approximately 1452 students. Our target is to help Form 4 students as these students are still blooming and we understand that to educate, one should start from young.

c. Project details:

1. Unanticipated difficulties: There is miscommunication in redeem funds from Khind Starfish Foundation due to difficulties in UTHM financial management processes. It is understandable though as this is the first time for us is involved in such a project with Khind Starfish Foundation. However due to this situation, project preparation was not able to be done according to the planned timeline, and there were many time constraints.

2. Language and cultural barriers: The schools have never received any video competition like this so some of them were not used to our rules and regulations. So, we took some time to give them proper explanations of what the project is about.

3. What worked well and didn’t: What worked well are we able to help the students by providing the education level on benefits in using smartphone. What didn’t work well is on reach our target which is 100 students from the district of Batu Pahat and Simpang Renggam and only 60 participants we got. It’s because some schools are having trial exams for the final year so the teachers might be worried if it will intrude students to focus on studying for exams. Besides, we have a problem regarding to spread the information about the competition among the schools in Batu Pahat and Simpang Renggam District. We need more support from the District Education Office of Batu Pahat.

4. Project beneficiary: Every student in schools Batu Pahat and Simpang Renggam district who are participated are benefited from the project. 60 students from 12 schools benefited from exposure to using a smartphone in publishing videos. The schools is SMK (P) Temenggong Ibrahim, SMK Suria Perdana, SMK Banang Jaya 1, SMK Banang Jaya 2, SMK Dato Sulaiman, SMK Tinggi Batu Pahat, SMK Tun Ismail, SMK Dato’ Syed Esa, SMK Simpang Renggam, SMK Datin Onn Jaafar, SMS Batu Pahat and SMK Tun Sardon. Indirectly, other students also participate in making the video as actors. Besides, all of the other students benefited from the project after watching the videos representing their school. The other students will also be exposed to the term harmony and importance of unity in living with the different races in Malaysia.

5. Project long-term effect and sustainability: This project provides the knowledge in using the technology by smartphone for the students which can lasts for a long time to apply in future. The participants also can bring and share the knowledge to their school which can embedded in their learning and teaching. In terms of sustainability, this project promotes the continuation of use of technology to achieve Industrial Revolution 4.0. At this stage of age, students can get the knowledge and understand the early concept of Industrial Revolution 4.0 and its impact on their future careers and their preparations. This is shows the important of technology.

Section II

We are glad to be part of this project and being able to contribute to the need community in sharing knowledge and making them happy. Moreover, these students lack knowledge in benefits of smartphone. Therefore, this project had given them experiences and happiness to them to explore more positive thing of smartphones and share it with others.

For long term aspect, knowledge is more applicable to our participants as being involved in this project will make them learn how to communicate, become leaders, generate ideas, express creativity and learn how to make proper preparations in order to win. This will be a stepping stone for them to become better in lots of ways and give them a chance to achieve their true potential in their creativities.

This project made a difference on how we perceive the world in sharing joy with other even we are in different skin tone. Throughout this project, the students from different races could develop a solid bonding among them. They opened up our eyes that despite of the growing issues between races in Malaysia, we can still stand unite and live in peace under the same sky. Thanks to Khind Starfish Foundation for providing a platform for us to implement this project successfully.
