Kg Melayu Majidee is a Malay village located in the city of Johor Bahru, Johor, Malaysia. Its population is around 30,000 people. The huge population come from different age groups consisting of children (0-14 years), youth (15-24 years), adults (25-64 years), and seniors (65 years and above). The North-South Expressway's southern exit point in Johor Bahru Interchange connects Kampung Melayu Majidee from the direction of Ulu Tiram. Kg. Melayu Majidee is flanked by major roads which link to the city. Economically, it is surrounded by fast-paced developments for Johor Bahru. Kampung Melayu Majidee is enjoying the state capital's resources for humanitarian developments and township infrastructures. As a result of fast development and huge population increment, many road accidents occur throughout the years. On 18 February 2017, there were 8 teenagers dead due to the road accident during cycling at Johor Bahru. It was informed that the police picked about 20 modified bicycles and wrecked bicycles from the scene of the accident. From these accidents, it was found that many people do not pay enough attention to the safety awareness on the road. Rules and regulations, safety equipment and attitudes are important criteria for safety awareness. This project aims to help children in primary and secondary schools to have safety awareness on the road. It is important that they can take safety measurements when they are on the road to reduce the possibilities of road accidents in the future. It is hoped that this community project will spread to all districts in Johor and then Malaysia later.

Safety Ride was created to create safety awareness towards little kids on how to ride safely on the road. The project was about to encourage the kids to the school while cycling and we want too enlarge the number of community that love to cycling. As we can see in this current era, most of the parents prefer to send their kids to school. Therefore, to create a low carbon city is by starting it from school since we are well known, most of the students love cycling and know how to cycling. And from what I have stated above, this event need to be starter since they were kids because at that stage their level or learning and curiosity is at the maximum level.

The first talk that we handled by our own self at Sekolah Kebangsaan Taman Rinting 1 and after conducting the talk at all the four selected schools around area Johor Bahru. The talk explained in details the rules that the students should applied while riding the bike and we also call one of the club in UiTM which is UiTM Pasir Gudang Cycling Club to explained their professional experiences, and from that we can conclude that most of the students were not being teach properly on how to ride the bicycle properly and what are the rules while riding the bicycle.

While handling the event, of course there is difficulty that we have too faced. The talk that we gave to the students were only limited to four schools around Johor Bahru which is due to we are trying to catch up will the school’s timetable before schools break starts and since we are currently are studying, our timetable are also packed. Due to those constraints, we are not able to enlarge our target number of students.

In long term, we hope the students would love to come to school by riding a bicycle because for those who obeys the rules and the safety features, they will be granted a gifts and from all the school that we have given the talk, if they support us and encourage their students to make our event more successful. They will be given a title from IRDA (Iskandar Regional Development Authorities) as the “Safe Cycling School’

The short term happiness that our beneficiaries may receive from the talks that was presented by the Safety Ride would be the sense of accomplishment. Learning rules on the road, Learning the safety equipment and learning the proper bike to be use will gave a great joy towards the students. We often heard how excited they were when interacting with us while conducting the talk. We hope that the short term happiness that we have given will manifest to long term happiness, in the sense that they will always been reminded to ride safely on the road.

Being in this project has opened my mind more than any other projects or event that I have joined. I have learned the exclusionary nature of our education and regulations system that need to be fixed. I usually thought those students who were always riding the “nyamuk” bicycle were those kids that was gangster. But since I joined this event, what makes me surprised is most of the students were never being thought properly and they never knew that riding in one of those bicycle were considered as illegal. I learned to be a person that the kids are comfortable to talk with so that they are aware with the situations that they are handling.
