Pusat Pemulihan Dalam Komuniti (PDK) is the community-based rehabilitation (CBR). CBR is characterized by its active involvement of persons with disabilities, their families and community support groups and also by its multi-sectorial approach to inclusive development.The objectives of the establishment of to improve the equalization of opportunities and social inclusion of people with disabilities. The approach also requires a synergistic strategic partnership between the government and civil society for the best interest of people with disabilities. In addition, it is to promote community actions towards human rights and sustainability development among people with disabilities. It also can ensure that people with disabilities become assets to their nations.Khind Starfish Foundation gives opportunity to the students and other parties to work together in reducing inequalities among people with disabilities in the community.
Overview of Issue / Background

Khind Starfish Foundation gives opportunity to the students and other parties to work together in reducing inequalities among people with disabilities in the community.
Project Objectives (Vision & Mission)
To date, the government has proven to fully commit to the welfare and well-being of Malaysia’s disabled citizens and has continued to give the necessary support on ensuring that the CBR program provides a meaningful and beneficial service, not only for the disabled but for the community as whole.
- To create a society that included a comprehensive and an inclusive that Disabled people will have the equal opportunities and enjoy full participation
- Enable disabilities persons and their families decision-makers at all levels of community-based rehabilitation programs
- Involve students with the disabled and community services.
Project Details (Activities and Tasks)
Phase I : Training to the PDK community ( July 2017)
- Collaborate with the PDK Community (which consists of the disables, teachers and the PDK Committes) on the activities to be held.
- Brief the PDK community on the objectives of the project.
- Introduce them with the module to be applied for the projects.
- Train the PDK community on how to conduct the modules and plantations.
- Train the PDK community on the cost and costing system in producing the mushrooms.
Phase II : Build Mushroom shed (August 2017)
- Build the mushrooms shed together with the PDK Community
Phase III : Put the medium block to the shed ( August 2017)
- Put the medium block of the mushroom in the shed
- Collect the mushroom from the shed for usage and selling
Phase IV : Market and Sell the mushroom ( September 2017)
- Help the PDK Community on marketing the product and advise them in terms of the product, place, price and promotion
Expected Project Result & Outcomes
- The PDK community especially the disabled in the PDK can depends on themselves especially in terms of generating income from growing and selling mushrooms.
- Encourage students blending in with the community especially the disabled citizens.
- Students get the hands-on experienced on how to grow mushrooms and encourage them to involve in agriculture sector.
- Develop entrepreneur skills among the students and the disabled student of PDK.

Summary Projects
This projects brings disables in PDK Happiness where they can grow and consume their homegrown mushroom and we managed to bring the community action towards human rights and sustainability development among people with disabilities.We also help them how to plant the oyster mushroom.
Fund-Raising Efforts
Project Cendawan Tiram Untuk Pusat Pemulihan Dalam Komuniti, succeed to get RM7 000 for Starfish Khind. In efforts to find another fund to complete the budgeting cost, Our team and PDK members manage to get other RM2 000 from community. All of the fund are in cash. The list of The funder are in Attachment 1 .
Project Details
Oyster Mushroom is very sensitive plant as everybody know. Its easy to be effected with green mold disease if the surrounding off plantation is not taken care properly. PDK have done this projects before, but the plantation are not succeed because of the place of plantation is not suitable for oyster mushroom to grow. Now we manage to get more condusive shed rather than use open space from previous projects that have be done by PDK. The unanticipated difficulties of the projects happen when we try to install the medium block, then we found that the wood that we use to hang the medium block been crack after the installment. We made some additional support by adding pillars. Other than that, we do not face any budget constraint as from early we manage to cut the budget by deducting RM800 from student expenses and RM500 from marketing and event support. The construction worked well as we hire the local contractor and it just took 3 days to complete. But bad news when we transfer the medium block from PDK Telok Datok, Kuala Langat because the transfer had been delayed many time due to bad weather and it took a long journey and it arrive at PDK Taman Yayasan, Segamat at night. Now this Cendawan Tiram Projects, bring a lot of benefit to PDK because it like a second chance for them to prove that they got something but this time with all the equipment to generate more.
Project Goals
How happy are we as parent if our special child got equipment to study at school?. How teacher at PDK feelings if they have money from this projects to purchase some equipment for this champion child to help them studies?. They are very happy from our first step to PDK for approaching them with our plan to help them. The commitment that PDK gives to us can shows how they are very thankful to all who are involved.
This project give many benefit in short term and also in long term. The PDK community especially for the disabled will be able to improved their economic condition. The demand of the mushroom is very high among customer and seller and current price of RM12- RM15 per kilogram bring potential income to PDK Community. The PDK community will be able to cut their household costs. This is because home grown mushroom are often promoted as a way to cut household costs by providing low-cost access to vegetables. Mushrooms contain some of the most powerful natural medicines on the planet. Studies on mushrooms detailed a wide variety of health benefits, including: improved weight management, improved nutrition, increased vitamin D levels and improved immune system function.
In long term benefit , Pegawai Kebajikan Masyarakat Segamat,Puan Rusyidatul binti Mat Yaacob, plan to bring another two PDK in Segamat to follow this projects and PDK Taman Yayasan will lead the other PDK. So this projects will continuously bring income to the PDK community. In discussion with PDK Coordinator’s in Taman Yayasan, that for further plan is to build another shed to generate more harvest and become a supplier in oyster mushroom and to have their own brand. Other than that, profit from selling cendawan tiram can be the capital to help them to commercial theirs student’s product.
How I Think.
What change our mind is about perspective about disable because they got better attitude than normal people. They sensitive about time and promise, just think why they and not to us.
