Overview of Issue / Background

Solar PV Hydroponics with IoT system is the title proposed project. It will be implemented at Integration Special Education Program (PPKI), Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan, Yong Peng, Batu Pahat to Increase the of Special Education Students.PPKI ( Program Pendidikan Khas Intergrasi) have 50 students and 9 teachers. This project is expected to be a hydroponic system pilot project for PPKI students in schools around FKEE UTHM. The effect of the COVID-19 pandemic, Internet of Things technology can be utilised to hydroponic systems to make it easier for farmers to monitor and control the grow process of vegetables. Monitoring and controlling activities, as well as plant care that can be done anywhere and at any time, are among the benefits gained through the use of IoT in hydroponic farming activities. The solar PhotoVoltaic (PV) as the main supply for hydroponic system

Project Objectives (Vision & Mission)

  1. Construct the solar photovoltaic (PV) hyroponic system to Yong Peng National High School, Batu Pahat
  2. Installing Hydroponic systems in accordance with the needs and capabilities of students in the Integration Special Education Program (PPKI).
  3. To create an IoT monitoring system for hydroponics and at any time to monitor the plant and give water automatically to the plant.
  4. Develop learning modules that are tailored to the needs and capabilities of students in the Integration Special Education Program (PPKI)

Project Details (Activities and Tasks)

  1. Project design,Simulation and coding development
  2. Hardware development and Iot testing.
  3. Install the PV hydroponic to SMK Yong Peng.
  4. Testing the system using Iot Approach.
  5. Module development based on PPKI approach.
  6. Collect the data and documentation of project.

Expected Project Result & Outcomes

It is needed for the development of an IoT-based hydroponic system using solar energy that will benefit society. Plants can be planted by students and teachers, and they can also be utilised to enhance teaching. Since IoT is a virtual system, this project will be an excellent learning concept because the national school curriculum includes planting plants and IoT learning. This idea would assist users(teachers) who are busy and do not have much time for gardening to easily control their hydroponic garden. Finally, this project is a smart system since it can monitor and control the outdoor garden's water pump, pesticides, and electricity in real time.

Section I

a)To develop a hydroponic system and a learning module relevant to the student syllabus which focuses on quality education. The system includes an IoT system, which will make PPKI student learning more efficient and the latest technology. Furthermore, this system has automatic functions that will make it much easier for teachers to maintain the system.

Providing reporting

d) Teammates arrangement and the funding was received late.

e) We had a good engagement with the special students. The only difficulties are it requires more patience when interacting with them and we need to show them how it works and so on. The teachers and students are very positive about our community services. They provide the accessibility required to run the project at the site.

f) Generally, the project went really well, despite a few difficulties during execution. Restructuring the plan was an excellent solution to the problem. My teammate's support and complete cooperation helped the project's execution go off without a hitch. Additionally, the crowdfunding balance that we need to raise received really positive feedback from our audience. The balance has been raised, and within one day, RM 645.00 was achieved. We were pleased that the project's outcomes, which provided solutions to the problems, were well received by both students and teachers.

g) The main goal of our project is to help the student to understand and have a hands-on learning experience rather than limiting it to  only theoretical learning methods. This is crucial for students with slower learning capabilities in their surroundings, especially the PPKI groups. Besides, teachers will benefit from this project as it has an easy maintenance system and will be used for their teaching of trainers (ToT).

In addition, this project was also designed to ensure that it reaches a few SDG goals. The first SDG goal is goal 4 which is “Quality Education. The project focused on delivering students and teachers the latest technology in the market which is suitable for their learning and experience. Next, the second SDG goal achieved is “Ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns, " SDG 12. The hydroponic operation can continuously produce efficient agricultural products. This shows that the system has great potential to be used broadly in industry and commercially. Besides being able to produce a continuous production of agricultural products, it can also ensure more sustainable consumption in society.

h)This project is our first innovation attempt to develop an automatic hydroponic system. The entire design process is based on the site condition, the learning environment, PPKI students’ development, and the need to execute an impactful, sustainable and innovative. Moreover, this project also encouraged us to be more considerate towards others, especially those who have disabilities. In short, we plan to continue the project with other schools and communities who are interested to learn about Solar PV Hydroponics with IoT systems and build a corporate social responsibility (CSR) program.

Section II

a) (i) Solar PV Hydroponics with IoT system helps in the study of PPKI students. It also allows teachers to teach students more effectively. This system will serve as a module of instruction for 50 students and 9 teachers. This system will be simple to manage, and growing production will be more efficient and long lasting. This is because of the system's IoT technology, which allows consumers to operate it more easily than traditional farming. It can also be used in training of trainers (ToT) activities by teachers.

In the near term, this initiative will assist PPKI students in learning with greater comprehension and hands-on experience, rather than just academic knowledge. On the other side, this project is heading toward the SDGs.

ii)This project has changed our lives and has sent us important messages about social awareness. This experiment has demonstrated the significance of good technical learning and handling challenges, which are critical elements to ensuring learning may be adapted much more efficiently, even for exceptional students, rather than only theoretical learning. It also contributes to progress toward SDGs, which will help our country in the long run rather than a small scope that only solves problems at the moment.
