LOST & FOUND CHILDHOOD
Enhance Wellbeing
In today’s digital age, many children in Senai New Village are becoming increasingly dependent on mobile devices, reducing face-to-face interaction, outdoor play, and community engagement. Public spaces that were once filled with laughter and social activities are slowly becoming quieter, while meaningful childhood experiences are being replaced by screen time.During our site observation, we noticed that although children still gather within the neighbourhood, many spend more time focusing on their phones instead of interacting with one another. This reflects the gradual loss of community connection and playful childhood experiences within the Senai community. Therefore, Lost & Found Childhood was created to revive the warmth of kampung childhood memories and encourage healthier social interaction among children and families. The project aims to transform an underutilised public space into an interactive maze that promotes playful learning, exploration, teamwork, and community bonding through self-guided activities. The purpose of this project is not only to create a fun environment for children, but also to encourage people to stop, interact, and reconnect with one another — bringing back a stronger sense of belonging and shared community experience in Senai.

In today’s digital age, many children in Senai New Village are becoming increasingly dependent on mobile devices, reducing face-to-face interaction, outdoor play, and community engagement. Public spaces that were once filled with laughter and social activities are slowly becoming quieter, while meaningful childhood experiences are being replaced by screen time.

During our site observation, we noticed that although children still gather within the neighbourhood, many spend more time focusing on their phones instead of interacting with one another.

  • Interactive maze exploration
  • Observation and discovery games
  • Sound and listening activities
  • Rope climbing and balancing play
  • Rhythm and percussion stations
  • Team-based interaction activities
  • Reading and storytelling corners
  • Nature exploration and sensory learning
  • Self-guided playful learning experiences
  • Community interaction and social activities
  • Outdoor physical play and movement activities
  • Exploration paths inspired by kampung childhood experiences

The project aims to transform underutilised public spaces in Senai New Village into lively and welcoming environments that encourage community interaction and playful learning. Through the interactive maze and self-guided activities, children will be encouraged to spend less time on mobile devices and more time engaging with people, play, and the physical environment around them.

The project is expected to strengthen relationships among children, families, and local residents by creating opportunities for shared experiences and meaningful face-to-face interaction. It also aims to revive the warmth of kampung childhood memories and create a stronger sense of belonging within the Senai community.

Expected Outcomes

  • More children actively using community spaces
  • Reduced dependency on mobile devices
  • Better interaction among residents and families
  • Increased playful learning and exploration among children
  • Stronger community bonding and shared memories
